Wondering if any one is using one of these? Any standout features to justify the high price? is it good enough to be worth it? Can one “bake” a chip or is it “pan fry” only? Thanks!
I have been using the Kodachi for years. The price is not justified, it just happened to be the first one that I came across. It’s pan fry mainly, but with more mica or mica with ash, you can do a little baking. A subitism should bake better, because the element should have more radiating heat. My solution for this is grinding my chips into a powder, then use low heat, it’s sorta like baking. That reminds me.... I have all the parts for my subitism since last February....but haven’t built it yet When I do, I intend to run a test with the guage and length of the nichrome for the particular power adapter to be used, before assembly.
Thank you @Oudamberlove! Just saw a Kodachi listing on eBay for around $250 USD...got me curious... Think I’ll pass though... I recently got one of the IO / @Faizal_p heaters, still learning that one...took the easy way instead of building my own.
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation @PEARL! May I ask the following questions: 1. Where did you find mica sheets of 0.3 mm thickness? 2. How did you make holes in the mica sheet to pass the heating wire? 3. How much distance is there between your top and bottom mica sheets? 4. Do you wrap the heating wire around the bottom mica sheet as in the original KZ heater? 5. Where do you attach the ends of the heating (nichrome) wire and those of the electrical wire (with the female pigtail)?
