That’s understandable. I know nothing about coding or setting up a message board, but is it possible that there could be a way for a member to set a filter which allows them to see new posts/replies in certain forum sections, and not others?

That is already available: under a forum section or thread you just press "watch thread"/watch forum and you get alerts of new activity in them.

You can find these at the top of the page just above and right of the page numbers.

Also, so I’m not being misunderstood, I’m not just griping about having to spend $35. If that was something being asked of members to support a place I enjoy visiting, I’d have no problem with that at all. It’s more a concern that it will drive away traffic from that section.

If you could choose to just ignore a section of the forum, and if people only posted ads in that section, that would solve the problem.

Right now you can choose to follow particular topics but as far as I know you cannot exclude a particular section from the “recent posts” page. Anyway it’s not a huge deal if what most people want is a place to talk about products with vendors then maybe this is the place for that. I personally find that uninteresting when it equates to product promotion, but that might just be my own problem.

Alsalamualaykum brothers and sisters I am very new to Ouds and the Oud community and I find the apprehension to join into more of the discussions here is a lack of
Alsalamualaykum brothers and sisters as being a novice to Oud and the Oud community I find that the members of this community are very passionate about Oud and this passion is reflected in there scrutiny of the language or references of how the members are trying to describe his or her ofactory experience of oils/ouds posted..(example The top note of x smelled like y...members passionate scrutiny..x can't smell like y...your x is fake /diluted)...well damn why should I share if this is the reception that I will receive. I find this to be the cause of my apprehension to post reviews or impressions of oils/ouds that I have purchased.

Hi @Kabir Attars - if you are referring to your post in the "agarwood reviews" thread then it's okay - nothing was because of what you said. I think you may have thought that people were directing their comments to you, but it was to each other. And yes, discussions like these happen, it's okay.

By all means, please continue to post reviews, it's good to see some fresh faces here. I've been posting here for over a year now and still am terrible at describing oils.
Some hints - try and perhaps describe the texture of an oil (is it thick and heavy smelling, or light an ethereal?), its performance, how wearing the oil makes you feel.

I don't get much from ouds that say about "notes" as I don't seem to formulate these thoughts myself when smelling oils so the above is of use to me.

Yes... don’t take things to heart and the problem with all online communication is that sometimes the context or intent is lost and I’ve seen people take the opposite meaning to what someone intended as that personal face to face dimension is missing.
