Some old old eye candy for ya. Solid. Pretty much no longer seen from this particular region, unless from old stock.

    Old Monkoh stuff ;)

Can you guess where these are from?

Do they make those deep carving indents into wood like this just to confirm resin density through the thickest part?

I've seen these kinda indents even in photos of wood in museums - where it looks like a deliberate cut into the wood.

    This is Hindi wood right?

Correct on the reason for those cuts. To give a peek on what’s on the inside.

    Not Hindi - keep Guessing!

Feel like if it's no longer available from this region as a hint - maybe Thai wood?

A good Island guess - but nope!

    Here’s another hint ...

A lot of wood is sold as this “island” ... although it’s actually been dry since the early 1980’s. Genuine specimens from this island, like these, only come from old collectors now, and were harvested prior to the 1980’s

    Boom :raisedhands:

Old Tarakan like this smells very similar to Old Brunei - and old Brunei doesn’t smell like what most folks see nowadays.

    This stuff smells ancient.

Nearly all the stuff we see being sold as Tarakan today really comes from mainland Borneo. Genuine Old Tarakan pieces like this will have to have been harvested prior to the 1980’s to be genuinely from the Island of Tarakan.

I got these from a Collegue of mine who has been collecting Agarwood for 70+ years. He’s old. And so are his woods. Been in his possession since they came out of the jungle more than 5 decades ago.

Fantastically aromatic at room temp :)

Contemplating cutting into one of these

Just curious - so would the tarakan woods I got from Dr i not be from tarakan actually? Guess I'll have to bring some to Georgia to get an opinion on it. Smells great at room temp!
