Hello guys,

Certain sandalwood oils I have, have developed some brown spots at the bottom of their attar bottles. Did some of you have this happen, is there an explanation?

Regards,

No sandalwood oil of the dozens I have sampled has ever done this. Can you post a photo?

Fresh and un-filtered (not artisanally cooked and cured) oil tends to have some tiniest particles that MAY lead to it.

This is just a guesswork. @tyson can tell something rather confidentially as he himself has distilled sandal a good many times.

I got a couple of bottles of Mysore 2014 from IO that had small brown clouds. Out of the 5 or so purchased just two had them...Smelled the same...so I threw in some musk and now the macerations are well on the way...

Hey @Mr.P, here the photos. @Arsalan, it is indeed IO Mysore 2014. I still used it as it smells pleasing.
Are there other similarly priced smooth Mysores suitable for macerations?
Esselamu aleykum, kind regards.

That’s odd... I double checked and all of my oils are clear with no precipitate.
Maybe they were poured from the bottom of a larger container. It could easily be that this is just something that only shows up in large bottles of oil and the only time you will ever notice is when you are buying the very last of a large stash.

I actually have one bottle buried away that I haven’t looked closely at in years. Itwas the very end of one company’s stock of mysore. I know for a fact that this is the bottom of a large bottle because I watched it being poured - literally the last drops. .I will go see if there’s any kind of cloudiness in that bottle - I’ll bet there is something.

You know of other similarly priced (IO 2014) Mysore oils suitable for macerations?
Anyone willing to sell some mysore if they are based in Europe :)

Kind regards
