Today I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!
BLUE KYARA by Rising Phoenix
This is totally unlike anything I have ever smelled! I can’t even wrap my head around what I’m smelling .
Bitter nice a touch of spice.
Mind buzz turning into blended fuzz
Confused delight satisfied incitement of senses
Thank you so much JK for making this experience possible, I am humbled

Habzoud Fahad - such a gorgeous oil. Hands down my favorite in the collection. I don't reach for it as much as I thought because most of the time, I want something a little bolder/spicier (like Nasir for example), but usually 1x every other week I'll make it a vanillic day! Today I've got Fahad on the wrist, enjoying the nice vanillic, candied sandalwood, sugar cookie, blue lotusy, hot sand kinda vibes. Reminds me a little of a warm beach/sandy at sunset when it's warm out. A 100% killer Borneo 3k alternative - to me these are very similar (I know I've said this a million times, but it's true!). Both are great oils - both fall on a spectrum of vanilla and baking spices (and oud of course). To my nose, B3k is more spice forward, and Fahad is more vanilla forward. Having both would still be a bit redundant though I think - at least with my "developing" finances, my focus with oils is more about differentiation. My biggest regret with my initial purchases when I first started is buying a bunch of EO organics. They are all really nice don't get me wrong, but also similar in a lot of ways. I think he may use a lot of the same "base" oils when blending those.

On the burner is Olefactory Sinking Malinau chips. You honestly can't beat these - photo below. Get at him because these will go quick whenever he officially offers them and I don't think there's many to begin with.

On my buy list now (and totally worth checking out) - Mustaqbil from Al Shareef Oud. He says this is a by the book Malinau - which super attractive to me because having "reference" oils is really important at this stage in my learning. What's super interesting is that every other Malinau oil I've tried has been that vanilla forward vibe. This one is totally different - more vetiver/pine/GREEN/high frequency/really unique aroma. As an analogy - to me, this is like a sharp Jade Oolong vs a Roasted Dong Ding. More light flavors instead of heavy oudy/ambery/darker tones. That said, this oil is still VERY high frequency - it's "light" in color and scent profile but that doesn't really describe it well either because it's VERY aromatic and strong. Lasts forever. This one will be a dividing line though for sure - you will either LOVE this or HATE it. It's definitely more unique than any other oil I've ever tried. Kinda similar to Sigiriya oil from RBO - that's the only oil that I've tried that I can make any connection to.

AA - Kohchang

Lovely shape shifter of an oil, that smells Chinese, Cambodi and somewhere viet. Ah, did I say it's a Thai oud.
... and what about that PRICE! I've worn this alone and with a nice, earthy, damp smelling root sandal, and it was really nice.

Not for those who need oud to be sweet. Wouldn't necessarily advise for one new to oud unless I knew they where up for this kind of experience.

Kumquat oud.

Agar Aura Hulubalang - Malay oils + Taha match made in Heaven

Also gave a generous swipe to my favorite Organic Oil from EO.

Jing Shen Lu - if anyone has experienced Kinam notes would get some in this oil in the dry down. Seems EO has used very high quality organic wood to distill this.

I have to echo your sentiments here regarding the EO organic oils. My experience is that the vast majority of them are just using the Oud Extraordinare and ZazaZen as the base and then they are blending in other oils to increase the perception of value and rarity, etc. Basically these oils are kind of unique and interesting for the first 15-30 mins and then you are just left with what the base oil is, ie. cultivated crassna. Which is funny since it seems like they are trying to create the perception that it's basically a distillation of all of these woods together, when in reality, it's a base of cultivated oud with a few drops of higher end oils added in.

On many occasions I have just taken a bit of the aforementioned organic base oils and then added a touch of other wild sri lanka or brunei oils that I have and it in essence yields a similar, if not superior experience.

On one token these cultivated oils are of course high caliber and represent many positive things in terms of the future of oud, organic oud, etc. However to my nose I find it to be a bit underwhelming and uninteresting, especially considering the near hyperbolic descriptions and reviews of these oils. Sometimes when reading the reviews I wonder what combination of hypnosis and drugs people are on, lol.

Update:
Now that Pa-Papua has dried down
it smells so much like KC’s Papua New Guinea
incense stick. About 80%
I’m quite surprised
but very pleased to see the similarity.
