You don’t need any controller, the motor is AC 110V (for North America) and it’s Gear Motor .
What you see in the photo is everything you need , this small motor run very slow 10 RPM and you can buy it from Amazon or any electronic store
Again it’s a Gear motor and you can choose any speed before you buy,but I think mor than 10 to 15 RPM not going to work because it will start separating the grains because of the Centrifugal force.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been working away from home for a week and I couldn’t shake my Macerated Musk and Ambergris in daily basis,
So I thought maybe there is a way I can set it up to be done with out me !!!
Then I build this :
I present the shaking device (too bad I couldn’t upload the video so you can see it in action -I don’t know why !) ,
It’s turn 10 times in a minute (10 RPM) ,so the grains is going up and down NON stop for any time you want because it’s connected to the power through timer (for me I set the timer to run 3 hours then stop for 3 hours then run for another 3 hours.
Can you imagine of shaking 6 hours a day !
It’s very simple and cost about 15 dollars !
Enjoy.

Interesting and creative!

I keep newly macerated oil in my pocket whenever I go out. Gentle shaking and heating are there.

Wonder if sandalwood has a saturation point whereby after maceration the musk notes cease to intensify. If not then maybe it's a good idea to replace the grains with a fresh batch every few months : )
I have more than 3 years old Siberian musk macerated in Mysore Sandalwood oil and smells wonderful but after a while I can detect the Sandalwood oil scent then I came across your post few months ago about replacing a new musk grains and I decided to give it a try.
So I replaced the oil with 1 gram of fresh Siberian musk grains and I added Mysore Sandalwood oil to the old musk grains.
First few weeks the scent was very potent with a strong Ammonia (urine like) smell then start mellow down and rounded, cutting any sharp notes while the bottle spinning on the spinner.
Now after more than 2 months the smell is out of this world and it’s very strong to the point that I can smell it after hours and hours (after shower)
And for the first time I CAN NOT detect any Sandalwood oil anymore, pure musk (like the raw grains) and the colour is totally red now (the photo is a month ago).
The old grains is already smells beautiful,it’s not like new maceration at all but aged one .
I can’t wait to see and try it after a year or more.
Thank you very much for the brilliant idea, this is the best if not the only forum of it’s kind where people like us can share and learn new thoughts and new ideas free of charge like true brothers.
Thank you all.

Now please share the views about the oil decanted from the bottle. Does that smell the way the oil smelt in the grains?

The old (aged macerated one) that I pulled from the bottle smell very nice and heavenly, but once I added the fresh musk grains and waited 2 months the smell, the longevity and the power it’s just multiplied not doubled (I mean it) multiplied many times and still very new maceration !
I am very happy for the result, actually I am very impressed ,satisfied and surprised by the result.

Hello everyone,

It’s been a year now and as I promised to share my experience with my Musk maceration :
From right to left, the first one is the (3 years old maceration that I mentioned above-transform the oil in new musk grain) and this one is truly strong,
I mean it’s very strong (exactly as fresh musk grains) but it’s very rounded ,the sharpness of ammonia like note is gone and sniffing from the cap is all what I need then the
Heavenly aroma sticks in my nose for a while, honestly this is the first time I am experienced the true musk (I don’t know if you guys know what I mean, after trying so many musks -fake and real from big houses -this is the only time I am fully satisfied) and that’s reminding me of Brother Ray Munir’s advice (make your own musk maceration and there’s nothing like it) that exactly what he always says and that’s exactly what I got , so thank you very much brother R.Munir.
I realize that this is too strong to use it as is (I love it just like that but it’s way strong to use it in public ,exactly like the very barny Indian Oud when we the Ouddict enjoying it and love it but really we can’t wear it in public ) so I decided to make my own blend out of it (wasn’t an easy decision at all , after about a month of yes and no ),
Finally 10 days ago I blend it (Note: I am not a Parfumer and I wish if I am therefore I tried to make something that I like and I am sure someone else will have better blend recipe) :

1. musk maceration is 6 ml.
2. 1 ml. Siharaja X (Sri Lankan Oud -Ensar Oud).
3. 0.5 ml. People Pursat (Cambodian Oud-Ensar Oud).
4. 1 ml. Kehebatan (Malaysian Oud -AgarAura).
5. 0.25ml. Assam Organic (Indian Oud-Ensar Oud).
6. 0.5 ml. Taifi Rose.
7. 0.5 ml.grey Ambergris maceration.
I started drop by drop for 4 days till I’ve got satisfied.
After 10 days it’s getting better and better and I am sure time will do the rest.
I really love the result big time it’s mind blowing, the musk is present all the way to the dry down then of course the Oud .

Back to the photo above, 2nd from the right is :the Mongolian Musk maceration and this one is totally deferent level .
A year ago it was close to the Siberian but ageing is doing its magic ! Now it’s deferent than Siberian,it’s Very flowery (I don’t know how to describe it)-Siberian musk plus loads of flowers, very lovely by its own-no need to blend !

Third one from right is :central Asian musk -a year ago it was very weak but it’s like sleeping monster by the time becomes stronger and potent ,a hidden touch of smokiness
(I don’t know if I can call it smokiness but it’s very attractive touch)-yah I am sniffing it now and the closest thing comes to my mind is smokiness, anyway definitely lovely musk.

Forth one from right is : the old Siberian musk grains (that I pulled the oil from it) then I added new Mysore sandalwood to it and the result is stunning musk oil.
Definitely I will wear it by it’s own and fully satisfying for musk hunger.

Fifth one from right is : the Tibetan musk and as you can see from the photo the colour is the lighter as well the smell , this is the weakest out of all my musk maceration
Maybe due to the (very dry-totally dry musk grains) ?! I don’t know but still nice deferent type and level of musk -I love too but to be honest I love the other ones more.

Thank you very much for reading my post and I will post an update if any changes happen.

My understanding was that once becoming moist again it produced the scent again?
Was the Tibetan scent profile strong in the beginning...?

Not at all, as I mentioned before (it was very dry-like a dust) and after more than a year now : definitely it’s stronger than before and that’s because (as you mentioned-the moisture of the sandalwood oil) , but it’s very weak if I compare it to the other types of musk that I have (they are all macerated in the same high grade sandalwood oil).
Of course I am comparing deferent types of musk, which is maybe not right because deferent types mean deferent profiles! But I am talking about the strengths (not the profile).
Maybe it’s needed more time, let see.

My Chinese grains were dry and weak, and even after years in sandalwood oil, still the same. I thought I didn’t have anymore of those grains, but that’s just because they were buried under other stuff. Last week I found them by accident, what a pleasant surprise. Although they are weak from being old and dry, when I opened the glass jar, it hasn’t become weaker, I guess at some point the strength levels off.
It’s very smooth and chocolatey.

I am interested as I have started to macerate some Siberian musk in a very high grade Sandalwood also. It is about 3 weeks for my 5ml bottle and just over a week with my 3ml bottle...but already they have begun to affect the Sandalwood with a change in colour and a different scent profile....I tend to walk with these two in my pockets and am constantly turning them as I walk and think....I find them quite therapeutic to turn..it must be a crystal thing as well...as the bottles are nice and sturdy....
The most respected Rai Munir gave me that little idea in one of his posts....I feel I am personally extending the artisanal aspect of the tradition by hand turning them...

I understood this to be a very simple and very rewarding idea sir. I too have at least one macerating bottle on my possession at any given time. More when I am not working.. I find hand turning in particular to be most rewarding an activity while I am out walking. It really does help me think and relax at the same time.
However, recently I dropped a 6mg bottle while vigorously turning but thankfully it did not break. So I quickly addressed the issue and made a bubble wrap pocket for the bottle at hand... I have one for my 3ml bottles and 6ml bottles....
