I like but not love it. I think I feel that way for most of his oils really
With 30+ entries we can't expect too many home runs. There are a couple I really like, and a few more I would like to have [had]. A SP wear is never a disappointment, but I do experience the spectrum from not-my-thing to this-is-special.

I wish I liked ruh khus. Always smells like asparagus to me...

Well, the Ruh Khus I received from a certain vendor is not that bad if I super dilute it. Really micro amount with lots of ethanol. Then it smells kind of refreshing, reminding me of some soaps, shampoos with green refreshing vibe + roots. But it is vetiver after all, so rooty notes are to be expected. In a normal concentration though, as it is in the bottle, as an oil, it’s.... well... it reminds me of an old cold cellar in a farming building where my family used to store vegetables and fruits. Very strong, overwhelming scent, rooty, musty, old stuff, but also hmm... salty/metallic. Natural, but... it’s too much for me. I think it’s just how it is with green Ruh Khus. I will leave it to age, and maybe in some future it will become more rounded and mellow.
Indonesian Vetiver from RBO on the other hand reminds me some vetiver notes from Tom Ford Gray Vetiver + other stuff. It opens with somewhat nutty notes but also fruity, citrusy, more sweet, kind of sunshine vibe. Much lighter. While Ruh Khus was dark cold basement in a dark woods. RBO Indonesian Vetiver seems more complex to my nose too. Quite like a perfume on it’s own.

Frankincense and Persian Saffron Maceration: Fresh feel is there, but dept is lacking.

Any idea will be appreciated what to do with it to turn it to an attar. I consider frankincense has a brief shelf life. So, I macerated saffron, and now I am looking for some idea to make an attar out of it. Once I used Cambodi Oud and Jasmine Sambac absolute, but the outcome was horrible.

Thanks
Uncle Rai, I once made a blend for my mother - mitti attar, galbanum, boswellia carterii, Persian saffron, Haitian vetiver, Sri Lankan sandal (steel-distilled) and ASO’s Afghani rose otto - it turned out very well. Be careful with galbanum as it can easily overtake the blend; but I would say it is necesary to complement the rose and frankincense with a more leafy freshness, and it also provides a stepping stone to the vetiver. Again Haitian is important there.

Sandalwood co2 select, high grade from
nisarga biotech

this oil is brown like dark amber maple syrup and is quite thick - same viscosity as distilled oil. The aroma is at first very strong, dry woody. It’s a much stronger sandalwood top note than I smell in other sandalwoods. Dry, powdery, mineral, sandalwood chip scent (vaguely Indonesian in character). This settles into a sweet mellow buzzing sandalwood base, with a long slowly tapering tail. I feel good hydrodistilled sandalwood oil performs better over longer periods of time (say 6-12 hours). I hope to see more sandalwood co2 oils on the market some day! I’ve seen Australian spicatum CO2 but the samples i saw were not remarkable to me.

Digging around in my bag and found a nonempty sample vial of Thebes 1. Lucky me. I thought I had exhausted them all...
For me, a beautiful muguet (lily of the valley) and iris opening, that will evolve to a morose musk and rose scent of decay.
The decay note is different than that in Oud Requiem; I really like them both, would choose the requiem if presented with the choice, but I'm happy to wear this T1 today.

Dissolving 1 gram of tyson’s white ambergris resin in some sandalwood oil (that was itself already infused with ambergris!). I’m trying to make a thick ambergris goo / oil with a very high ambergris to sandalwood ratio. If possible I will probably aim for 1 g ambergris in 3 g sandalwood.
I will report back.

Update: The ambergris resin from Tyson was too hard / brittle to easily dissolve or mix with sandalwood so heating was needed. Basically if you melt the ambergris resin into a small amount of sandalwood, they mix and form a liquid that stays liquid. I have it almost fully dissolved now - tyson’s extract really shines here - in its hard form it was milky/ translucent but dissolved it is absolutely transparent, beautiful golden color. The scent profile is as nice as any ambergris I’ve encountered - mossy earthy marine but no halitosis or excrement. Top quality resin there Tyson! Amazingly the ambergris dissolved entirely into maybe 0.75 g of sandalwood oil, so what I have is almost like liquid ambergris. The sandalwood is very subdued at this concentration. The extract is very viscous and pours extremely slowly. Somewhat like honey.

This is the first legit ambergris oil I have encountered. I know they are out there, I just haven’t had one before. This is a nice thing to add to my library of scent.

Nice. Sandalwood and ambergris is such a beautiful combination.
How did you heat it so that it didn't get too hot? Vial in hot water?

I applied heat to the outside of the bottle - basically heated the glass first with a water bath and then with a small blowtorch (!). Never much sustained heat. Just melt what’s touching the sides, swirl, repeat. The stuff is so thick that it takes a while for the bubble to float to the top when I flip the bottle.

update:
I added a pic showing a bubble slowly working its way through the ambergris goo...

Picture of the year!

Last year, I did the same thing, but the Ambergris was brown and black. First I heated the chunks, and stirred the lava sort of liquid with needle. Later, mixed Santal in that. After six months, decanted more Santal and macerated Musk.

I will try it again, just to grasp the colour to be appeared. Mysore Sandal and black Ambergris.

Thank you very much, Mr P, for this pic. Inspirational!

I am layering a maydi frankincense tincture with Siberian musk tincture. This particular frankincense tincture is quite musky and animalic... wild stuff. When I put on a drop of the tincture it just immediately reminded me of musk. Not that it smells like musk, but there is a certain quality to the scent - a kind of bright penetrating sawtooth top note that is an echo of the top note of musk.

smelling the blend, it is nice but not really an improvement on the ingredients by themselves.
