I remember Ensar telling me to buy in the last of the remaining original Borneo 3000s as they were made of fully sinking grade wood. When he released the Borneo 3000 second batch around 2011, I asked him about it and he said it was not of the same quality- I bought a bottle and I can confirm it wasn’t and I sold it in 2012. The last bottles of the original Borneo 3000 sold for $5999 on the Oriscent website. So whatever this new oil is, I doubt it’s of the same calibre, but probably close enough to enjoy at what is a very good price.
Fast forward to 2016 and rumours were going round of an oil that was very similar to the Borneo 3000 and I recall Ensar quite forcefully rejecting any such claim and saying this was not possible. Well curiosity got the better of me and I got hold of a batch which ended up as the Amira from Al Hashimi (now sold out). That oil was the closest to the original I’ve smelled, but more like the second batch of the Borneo 3000 (from my memory). It will be interesting to compare the current version with the original Borneo 3000 for sure and I might give people a chance to do so next week as I have unopened and unoxidised bottles from which to decant.
