Kashmiri Musk & Mysuru Santal Maceration: At last, I drew out the applicator after 15 months, and just a dab on perilabial. I realized that language is just a limited tool to express the deepest and the most delicate feelings. It was Musk, not I, that existed.

Come what may now, I have smelt what I wanted to smell. The past seems hum drum, trivial and vain. Extremism!

Swiped my Al Ghaliyah blend no.2
I am so thrilled at the beauty!!!
It’s like Al Ruba’ie with pipe tobacco and cigar tobacco and musk:Inlove:
The ouds in it are EO Assam Wilde, KZ Cambodia Classic, and TO 95 yr tree. The Ward Ta’ifi is modestly sitting in the background.
The ambergris, saffron, and civet are so low key that you hardly smell them.
It is mainly oud and musk.

A pleasant surprise!

Did you use saffron oil or its strands?

Dear Rai
I used Saffron essential oil purchased from Sweeders on ebay. Some of his stuff is good, some not.
Five years ago, I purchased very many different essential oils from different sellers. Now I assess what’s good and what’s not after all those years of aging. The Saffron was very satisfactory or else I would not have used it.
Unfortunately, I will use only 5% of all the essential oils and absolutes in my collection. The rest did not prove worthy:(

Exactly, and the feel these watery essential oils inject into blends is worse than bad. This is what I sense in majority of uttoor/ attars on the market. I was sure that you would go for something best available.

Thanks for response.

Dear Rai

My method of testing the essential oils is by swiping on skin and by placing a drop on a cotton swab (qtip). The swipe will reveal the interaction with the skin, both in scent and allergic reaction. The drop of oil on the cotton swab will sit in my room, open air, for a month or two, then I sniff it daily or every other day. The swab test reveals anything undesirable.

I should have macerated saffron years ago. But luckily, I do have macerations and tinctures of several resins plus my different ambergris and musks:Thumbsup:

HOLY- by Tyson Mortensen-on the right arm
Euphoria -on the left arm

Oh my God- well done with both:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I think having your own distillation apparatus is an amazing thing:Inlove:

With HOLY-
Frangipani is a very refined Frangipani- if Frangipani was oud- Tysons Frangipani would be Kinam-

The Frangipani is elevated by a very sweet Vanilla and ambergris smells giving a 3D effect-

The oud- i am not sure which region- however its an amazing addition as it connects the continuum very well- its not too strong- not too weak- its very well felt.

Speaking as an attar maker/the challenge with frangipani and oud is that one can compeltely overtake the other- in the case of HOLY- both are there- distinctly and harmoniously.

Well done Tyson:)

Thanks a lot for this tip. Otherwise, I was expecting that my hands would get moss someday after trying watery attars. Though my olfactory generally never cheats me, but after all, some other members wearing those oils compels me to try, but enormously disappointed. Now at least I have got a way out. Swab.

Now this journey is from swipe to swab:Roflmao:. Fragrance industry has a joint venture with swab making companies, I think.

Maceration: Tibetan Musk, Black Ambergris & Mysore Sandal: Yes, it is a quite different fragrance as compared to just Tibetan and Sandal or Musk and Oud Sandal. Ambergris is a catalyst indeed.

I like this kind of heavy stillness in perfume oils. It requires aging, but I used it to, unusual action of mine, know about the change after a month. Ambergris and Tibetan do bring awesome quietude.

The Sandals still overpower the Ambergris until drydown, that’s when the Ambergris is more noticeable. More of a sweet than animalic Ambergris.

The Iowa Sandal is a Mysore type oil that is Vintage from a long time closed drug store in Iowa.
I got a 60 ml bottle for $120, but after that, the old-timer sold a couple more bottles for nearly $300 each:confused:
