Wonderful do what about the aroma?

The fresh grain is more potent and complex. The animalic smell hit you straight in the face and overwhelm the slightly sweet musky smell in the background. Personally I much prefer the dried grains as the smell is more refined; powdery with a more prominent musky smell. In retrospective, I should have kept some of the wet grains as reference.

Hi Oud_learner !
Could you tell me how long does it take for the grains to become dry, and what technique do you use to dry them ? Thank you very much !

Hi/Salaam to all. I have been going through this thread over the past few days. Thank you for all your valuable contributions!

I acquired some musk grains (3g) from sibmusk.com and Sandalwood LTD (6ml) from AgarwoodIndonesia. I will be filtering and macerating the musk in the Indonesian sandalwood. How do you guys weigh the musk grains - do you use a scale or approximate? Would 1g of musk grains in 6ml of sandalwood be too much?

I also have 1/4 tola Indian Rose and 1/4 tola Taifi rose oils so I might experiment with musk macerations in those. Also, insha' Allah I wish to acquire some Mysore sandalwood and macerate musk in that. I will upload some pictures of my process, insha' Allah. Another project I might consider is tincturing musk grains in a 6ml ambergris tincture which I have.

When you use moringa oil for musk dilution:
Do you use the refined or unrefined version?
I heard Omega 3 Acids oxidate fast but moringa has antioxidants in it.

Sorry Jimmie i have been very busy last few months and I missed this.

You raise a very interesting point regarding the role of antioxidants in essential oils. Many essential oils have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants prevent oxidation from taking place, and this is why antioxidants are recommended for consumption and application.

One of the interesting discussions is that such properties in essential oils makes them much more resistant to oxidation, so what about the view that little amounts of air in a bottle or vial will ruin your precious oils? Is it really that critical and urgent?

Coming back to your question, when it comes to blends and perfumery it is best to use oils that will alter the least in a negative way and distilled oils perform much better than pressed oils. Pressed oils generally deteriorate fairly rapidly over time. For example cold pressed virgin olive oil loses most its goodness within the first 18month and thereafter has no to little benefit for consumption.

With regards to Moringa if you can get distilled moringa oil than this is better suited for perfumery, however the common method used currently is pressed moringa, then for that try to use one that has freshly been pressed, macerate your musk in it and keep in dark and cook place. As the mixture ages and since it will not be consumed you don't really need to worry about the health properties of the oil, as long as you store it correctly so that when it does change it does so in a good way from a scent perspective. Moringa oil not stored correctly can change in a bad way and smell rancid.

Hope that helps

Tibetan Musk & Mysore Sandal: Tibetan Musk I got a few days back, sent by an authentic person other than Faheem. This is an experimental maceration; so, I macerated enough grains in a little Sandal oil to have the Musk aroma.

When the Musk I received sent by brother Faheem, I will be in a better position to say something about this very Tibetan Musk. Its aroma and the strength of aroma, both in grains and in macerations.

Kashmiri, Siberian & Tibetan Musks & Mysore Santal: Well, now I have learnt a little bit, not more than 1 per cent, that what 'fragrance' actually is. Without letting the applicator out, the fragrance unleashes itself to swallow whosoever tries to smell that.
At least 1 gram Musk ( Kashmiri, Siberian, and Tibetan, and the Tibetan is comparatively more than the other two, because I have enough Tibetan grains), and approximately 2 grams Mysore Sandal. Just three days before I macerated it. But the aroma is matchless. It nullifies aging, and affirms the amount of Musk is all that counts.
