Hi,

I'm Kimberly. I love all things botanical and do quite a bit of gardening in the warmer months here in NJ. I enjoy cooking and walking. Fragrances especially those of the natural variety make me quite happy. I'm just getting acquainted to the world of oudh and so I've joined this site to acquire more of an education before choosing to acquire any to try; these are quite costly it seems. I would say that I am opting for more of the spicy, fruity, and even sweet as I'd like oudh that I can wear out of the house. I am loving traditional attars as well so if anyone knows where I can source any from reputable people that would be much appreciated.

Welcome Chinwezon! Nice to have another woman on board! :handwaving:

For attars, I concur with Habz. Most if not all of the oud vendors mentioned on this forum also sell attars and/or mukhallats. They tend to be less expensive than the oud oils, usually quite attainable. And of high quality just like the oils they sell.

If one is absolutely newbie to Oud, the safest platform to have a first flight is 'wood'. Oud incense engraves the mystery that is the distinctive attribute and trait of Oud. Heating or burning Oudwood is the ancient most tradition. Oil is pretty latest phenomenon. Second, when one truly gets one's taste for Oud cultivated, floral and citrus centered love becomes a second preference. Oud annihilates all (EXCEPT MUSK). If botanical aroma has already been registered, I feel the best Oud oil will be 'Ceylon Oud oil'- the meeting point of floral, spice, citrus and Oud (Oud is a distinctive, absolutely distinctive profile). Transporting! Moving! Mesmerizing, indeed! So far as 'itr' goes, I never go for too-many-ingredient-stuffed itr. Rather I prefer 'blends'- not more than two ingredients. Artisanal perfume oils/ utoor are matchless. Well, it will be highly instrumental if floral fragrances are to be experienced without any blending, infusing, mixing. It is a kind of trekking. From a base-camp to the peak cannot be reached with a jump, unless one is not a Spiderman. If at all it is done, one misses a lot. Ajmal's utoor/ perfume oils are nice. If I have to recommend, I will strongly recommend Musk and Sandal BLEND, not itr. It is a Fragrant Black Hole, from where all fragrances emanate.
Last, the word 'kodo' is a guiding star for us all. 'listen to the incense'! You yourself will come to know where your true taste/ self resides.

@jensz: Respected Jensz, two's a company, and three's a crowd:Roflmao:. Let's see, what would be the future of our Forum.

We will be expanding the community to include natural perfumery soon. Ouddict will remain the Oud place to be as we do not want to change it's character, but it will be part of a larger natural perfumery platform. ;)

Hi Rai,

Thank you. These are good suggestions. At the moment I'm trying out different attars and essential oils as single note fragrances (rose wood, frankincense, and davana) to see where my tastes mostly lie. When you say sandal and musk blend, which brand would you recommend or is it Ajmal for this?

Well, Musk and Sandal blends are a lot on the market. Here on this Forum respected Omar (Paradiseofoils) and respected Faheem (Imperial Oud) offer this blend. Their reliability is above question. I have experienced Faheem's, and that is of top most quality as the Sandal Mysore is of an excellent quality. I am sure he will release it by the end of December or on the up-coming Black Friday. This is my estimiation about launching this oil. Respected Omar's maceration is available on Paradise of Oils website. One maceration of Musk in Sandal, and one in Moringa. A lot of members highly appreciated this oil ( Musk Sandal). There is another option: Sharif Laroche. But I will recommend the vendors on the Forum.

If you are entirely new to Oud, please acquire samples first, and wear minutest quantity. For some, Oud oils turn to be irritant. Ensar Oud's Sultan Leather Attar and Agar Aura's Cuir Chypre are wonderful perfume oils indeed. The former one is an outstanding artisanal creation from Rose and Oud.

Frankincense:Thumbsup:! Again better experience its aroma through burning/ heating it. A couple of months before Agar Aura presented its itr, though I didn't get that, but that had immensely been lauded by the members. I don't know whether it is available now or not.

I feel you @Rai Munir could give me a slap in the head and I wouldn't care. Always a fantastic opinion and a pleasurable read.

Hello all! New member here from Baltimore MD. Looking to start my journey into the world of oud oil as my fragrance journey is at a stand still because I haven't found anything interesting recently. I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on this but would like to get a taste with as cheap as possible. I received a few small samples of Cambodian and Vietnam oud oil and was blown away at the deep dark pugnent woody backbone these oils produced.
Question... Is all oud from a specific place similar? Like the Cambodian Oud I tried, would it smell the same if I ordered some elsewhere or are they all different in their own way due to distilling? Any help or guide to starting small would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Jonathan... a warm welcome to the forum. The vendors here can definitely give you Oud that is the best in the market. Regarding lid from same country, some countries have different species of Agarwood that grow within them hence affecting the scent profile. The techniques of a distiller - soaking, water source, copper or steel or glass apparatus - etc all make a difference in short.

I’m hoping that one of the vendors here can expand on this....

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I hope this question doesn't break rules but are the sellers on Amazon legit for oud oil purchases?
