@Chinwezon: Respected Chinwezon, first of all welcome on board.
If one is absolutely newbie to Oud, the safest platform to have a first flight is 'wood'. Oud incense engraves the mystery that is the distinctive attribute and trait of Oud. Heating or burning Oudwood is the ancient most tradition. Oil is pretty latest phenomenon. Second, when one truly gets one's taste for Oud cultivated, floral and citrus centered love becomes a second preference. Oud annihilates all (EXCEPT MUSK). If botanical aroma has already been registered, I feel the best Oud oil will be 'Ceylon Oud oil'- the meeting point of floral, spice, citrus and Oud (Oud is a distinctive, absolutely distinctive profile). Transporting! Moving! Mesmerizing, indeed! So far as 'itr' goes, I never go for too-many-ingredient-stuffed itr. Rather I prefer 'blends'- not more than two ingredients. Artisanal perfume oils/ utoor are matchless. Well, it will be highly instrumental if floral fragrances are to be experienced without any blending, infusing, mixing. It is a kind of trekking. From a base-camp to the peak cannot be reached with a jump, unless one is not a Spiderman. If at all it is done, one misses a lot. Ajmal's utoor/ perfume oils are nice. If I have to recommend, I will strongly recommend Musk and Sandal BLEND, not itr. It is a Fragrant Black Hole, from where all fragrances emanate.
Last, the word 'kodo' is a guiding star for us all. 'listen to the incense'! You yourself will come to know where your true taste/ self resides.
