    Ancient Assam Series launched

Ancient Assam series of oils is a tribute to Assam, the region known for its agarwood around the world since very old times. The well known historical kingdoms in the region like Kamarupa, Ahom, Davaka, Koch Hajo - to name a few; traded agarwood with the neighbouring and far off kingdoms while many foreign invaders fought with them to gain control of the region for this extremely treasured good. Many historical and ancient books are heaped with words of praises for the aloeswood from Assam!

Indicana oud brings that old and original spirit of ancient Assam captured in its new series of oils, crafted by some of the oldest distillers residing in Upper Assam. Crafted in the most traditional method, by the most experienced hands, using the most excellent of aloeswood to produce oils that capture the aroma, aura, warmth of ancient Assam!

    Kamarupa
Kamarupa is pure and natural agarwood oil from the land of agarwood - Assam, India.

Named after one of the oldest known kingdom to have existed and flourished in the region of present day Assam. There are mentions in the books of history that Hindu pilgrims of old times carried most excellent aloes (oud wood) of Kamarupa all the way to the then western Indian city of Multan (now in present day Pakistan) as a present to a temple there. It is understood that priests of the temple then sold those aloes to the merchants in Multan. These merchants then carried these aloes as there merchandise to the west, primarily through two well known trade routes - the silk route and the incense trail.

During those days in Kamarupa, oud was one of the main items of cosmetics as there is mention of this article in different old scriptures of Kamarupa.

Kamarupa oud oil has been distilled by one of the most experienced family in the art of oud oil distillation in India involved in this craft for more than 45 years now. Residing in one very small village of Mazgaon, Golaghat - Upper Assam, the distillation unit was set up by the father in early 1970's. Now his sons have carried forward this art from their father.

Kamarupa oud oil, along with its sibling from Ancient Assam series, has been specially crafted by this family for Indicana Oud using nothing but the best, highly resinous aloeswood for distillation.

    Description:

Top notes - Fresh citrusy and zesty, full of energy. Tangy, peppery notes enveloped and complemented by humming pungent notes.

Middle note - Honey, floral notes whispering through minty, musky, earthy notes.

Basenotes - Deep musky, heavy hay, green notes with undertones of rounded barn.

    Davaka

Davaka is pure and natural agarwood oil from the land of agarwood - Assam, India. This oil comes from the Ancient Assam Series of oud oils which have been distilled by one of the most experienced family from India involved in this art of oud oil distillation for more than 45 years now.

The curving chips were soaked for almost 20 days in the ground water of Golaghat which lend Davaka its barny, butyric heartnote.

Davaka, along with its other siblings from Ancient Assam series of agarwood oils, has been specially distilled for Indicana oud with some of most resinous oud wood from the region of Golaghat, Assam.

    DESCRIPTION:

Top notes - Powerful oil with complex fusion of sweet, floral and deep, heavy notes yet very difficult to decipher its individual notes. This oil is unlike oud oils yet very true oud oil. The closest top notes I can sense are of heavy sweet notes of plums and cherries deeply interwoven with the symphony of leather, wood, smoke and earth.

Middle notes - Grainy, barn, hindi notes begin to rise and encompass with whiffs of creamy, butyric notes becoming more and more prominent.

Basenotes - Deep and heavy with hints of barn and hindi notes, animalic intertwined with fully developed butyric, milky notes.

It is very unique and powerful oil. Some of my friends from middle east loved it most of all my oils.

    Koch Hajo

Koch Hajo is my third oil from Ancient Assam Series. This pure and natural agarwood oil from the land of agarwood - Assam, India, he oil has been distilled specially for Indicana Oud by one of the most experienced family from India involved in the art of oud oil distillation for more than 45 years now.

This oil is named after the ancient kingdom - Koch Hajo under Raghudev and his son Parikshit Narayan of the Koch dynasty on the north bank of Brahmaputra river in the medieval Assam. The name Hajo comes from a legendary king Hajo the Koch, an ancestor of the Koch dynasty.

    DESCRIPTION:

Top notes - Clean, smooth, delicate, soothing, light fruity floral, very mellowed and rounded top notes

Middle notes - muddy, like the scent of first rain on dry earth with tantalizing hints of tangy petroleum notes

Basenotes - Deep, sweet floral and powdery, petroleum notes giving way to sweet agreeable barn.

A very good oil for western noses who are looking to start into the world of oud oils. A very delicate balance of sweet and deep aromas takes you to an opulent sensory experience. And at the price we are giving, it’s a steal for pure oud oil!
