Oud Tea
Any possibility that you could share a neri koh recipe or lesson that we may all benefit from ?

Well, as my efforts are being made towards a potential commercial product I won’t go into the specifics of what I personally do. I will say that I make mine to satisfy my passion for appreciating wood and resin. I also wanted something to complement my tea session in addition to the oud I heat up. That said, we live in a world whereby information is readily available at our fingertips. I suggest if anyone is serious about it, you need to help yourself. Google can start you off. Do some research and understand the basics. Hard work, patience and sourcing good quality ingredients go a long way towards making good quality nerikoh. If you show that you are serious and have put in the work shoot me a PM and I’ll be happy to answer specific questions.

The links below are introductory posts I wrote on natural incense and nerikoh that may be of interest.

Oud Tea
Thanks this website so lovely!

Dear Mandeel, thank you for the kind words.

Great link. nice goto site for my tea education as well

Dear Chip Burns, thank you. I love puerh and other categories of age tea. In the oud world I often hear all roads lead to Hindi oud. In the tea world I feel that final destination is age tea.

I started at aged Puerh tea, and now I'm starting to explore the different roads leading away from it. Just found out that I am a sucker for black tea and Wuyi oolong tea they're soooo good!

That is good. The significance of a journey is an accumulation of both time and how much ground is covered. Explore the vast landscape of tea that is out there. Experience the famous landmarks, and see the diversity of the different terrains and what they offer. Then when one day the feeling of surprise and fresh excitement leaves you, you will settle on your final destination.

Indeed. I really do love tea. You can just sit down and enjoy a tea for a very long time, and it's just so calming and amazing.

But, haha, when I started I really didn't like raw puer, I stuck to ripe because it was a more predictable taste, and it wasn't too harsh on my palate. But now, it's the opposite, I crave the complexity that a raw puer brings, whether that be the funky storage notes of an old wet stored raw, or the fruity brightness of a young raw. Now, I really don't drink as much ripe puer these days because it's just too predictable! I think Oud is very similar in this way. Right now, I love Thai and Cambodian ouds, they're sweet a little bit predictable and won't surprise you, but now I'm starting to appreciate the more unpredictable and complex side of oud. I bet a few years from now I won't even want to touch a Thai oil, just like ripe puer! But you're right, the significance of the journey and what you learn along the way is just so important, and rewarding.

Had gotten a call from an old High School buddy, about two weeks ago, while talking I remembered his wife was of Japanese decent and that I had seen my first tea ceremony at her parents house, about 20 + years ago, I asked him if he was ever exposed to Kodo or any incense ceremonies during his tenure as a married man, he said not that he could remember and why did I ask... so I laid down a basic intro to oudh and my interest in it.. he politely ended our conversation and said he'd look further into it.
this afternoon he knocks on my door (he lives in Colorado I'm in New Jersey) and is completely read up on almost every website and you-tube video on the subject of Agar-wood and tells me he's ready to go traveling in search of the source of oudh.
I had to perform an emergency intervention and sat him down to a world tour at the burner... started in Assam, India with the oldest of my collection I had obtained from YAM International back in 2006, took him across the border into Burmese Private Reserve from Oudimentary, then into Thailand with some nice Super Trat from Feel-Oud, paused for some Java coffee that I had roasted yesterday, continued on to Cambodi Pursat from Agar Aroma, and ended up with some chips originating in Brunei from Ensar. He took to fumigating like a pro making sure to get it into his winter scarf like he'd been doing this for a long time... He had to leave to get his kids but something tells me he'll be back. House smells great.. He'll probably be visiting Ouddict soon as well told him all about you guys...

What a treat!
I have a Cambodian work mate, let him smell some Oud Dhul Q, I guess he took in a big whiff and started coughing. How can he be from Cambodia and not hear about oud?
A Yurt sounds like a nice idea. I could call mine Curt’s Yurt:D

Yurts are designed to be mobile , maybe attach a hot air ballon filled with oud vapour , pick us all up as you travel and we can go sailing over the jungle canopies sniffing out unknown species of oud .... anyone?
..... a chip from Manipur sizzling away on my heater , thanks to Zak

Musk Man
A long long session today. Not only olfactory, but whole body including dress basked in Mysore Sandal and Oud.

Today had some experiments as well. Respected Jimmie floated an idea, and today I executed that:
1. First I placed some Siberian Musk grains on the already fully burnt chip of Oud. PLEASE DON'T TRY IT.
2. Soaked an Oud chip in Musk Sandal maceration oil and then placed that chip on the coal. Well, there were some trails different, but not noteworthy.
3. Rose wax (prepared on my own) and Ceylon Sandal: I threw a table spoon Ceylon Sandal crushed shavings into the Rose wax. A paste sort of incense. WELL, IT IS THE BEST EVER EXPERIENCE OF MINE OF HEATING SOMETHING. Rose and Sandal smoke. I kept heating it for thirty minutes consecutively. Even now, craving for more and more is escalating.

Well, I can't resist extracting Rose wax tomorrow, and will mix the jar full of Ceylon Sandal in that.

Oud Tea
Aging Incense - I love the aging process and the magical transformation that time brings. I have experienced it with tea, both from the wood and oil of ouds and today I am enjoying the contrast between 2 incense pastes from last year. The darker paste is a batch from Jan 2017 whilst the lighter one is from later in the year in Oct. These were made from a blend of woods and resin, mixed with wild dark honey and pummeled in a paste and left to cure in storage. Today I was testing out several batches to see how they are coming along. The older paste is noticeably darker and deeper in aroma with a spicy wood and a slight cacao note. The younger paste is more raw and sharp with a woodier tone. The younger paste has a scent that feels somewhat fragmented as the components have yet to really meld together, and lack the softness to the overall profile. The older paste is ready and that means I have some work ahead of me now in the coming weeks as I want to finish off a batch of Frankincense Nerikoh balls.

In anticipation of receiving the filipina no 1 an agar aura oil in near future I thought I revisit the wood. Full Sinking and dark as a black bears behind ;)

Compelling. Special. You know you are in presence of something great when you go nice and slow and then go high heat for few seconds then back down. So much going on. Terra Rosa clay. Manuka honey. Clean and mostly dry forest floor. Old leatherback antique book. I don’t know why but first time ever I am getting ambergris notes in oud. A very silver border line white piece. Remarkable. Pretty high price and not one I would back up the truck for but wish I had a bit more. Few grams more even.

Here is a look of the piece. Super dense.
